DEATH IS NOT BIGGEST LOSS BUT LOST AND BROKEN MIND IS (Mental illness)
Just as the phrase "PHYSICAL ILLNESS" is used to describe a range of physical health problems, the term "MENTAL ILLNESS "encompasses a variety of mental health conditions. Mental health is a person's conditions with regard to their physiological and emotional well being. It also affect how we think, feel, and act.
TYPES OF MENTAL ISSUES:
Mental illness can be categorised based on their diagnostic criteria
- Anxiety disorder :- This can be characterized by significant feelings of anxiety or fear with physical symptoms like increase in breathe rate, increased heart beats, sweating etc.
- Personality disorder :-it is a way of thinking, feeling and behaving that deviated from the expectations of the culture, causes distress or problems functioning and last overtime.
- Bipolar and related disorder :- It is a disorder associated with episodes of mood swings ranging from depressive lows to manic highs.
- Depressive disorder :- This disorder characterised by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities , causing significant impairment in daily life.
- Elimination disorder :- It occur when children who are otherwise old enough to eliminate waste appropriately repeatedly void feces or urine in inappropriate places or at inappropriate time.
- Gender dysphoria :- It is a feeling of discomfort or distress that might occur in people whose gender identity differ from their sex assigned at birth or sex related physical characters.
- Sleep wake disorder :- This involves problem with the quality, timing and amount of sleep, which result in daytime distress and impairment in functioning. Sleep wake disorders often occur along with medical conditions or other mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety , or congnitive disorders.
- Trauma and stressor :-These are a group of emotional and behavioural problems that may result from childhood traumatic and stressful experiences.
And there are many more criteria in which we can categorise mental illness
SIGN AND SYMPTOMS
Each illness has its own symptoms but common signs of mental illness in adult and adolescents can include the following :-
- Excessive fear or uneasiness
- mood changes
- problem thinking
- sleep or appetite changes
- withdrawal
The presence of one or two of these signs alone doesn't mean you have any mental illness. If you are experiencing several symptoms at one time, you should contact a physician.
CAUSES
There is no single cause for mental illness, a number of factors can contribute to risk for this illness they are as follow :-
- Your genes and family history.
- Biological factors such as imbalances in brain.
- A traumatic brain injury.
- A mother's exposure to viruses or toxic chemicals while pregnant.
- Use of alcohol or recreational drugs
- having a serious medical condition like cancer
- having few friends and feeing lonely and isolated.
COVID PANDEMIC AND MENTAL HEALTH :-
The covid 19 pandemic and the resulting economic recession have negatively affected many people's mental health and created new problems for people who are already facing it.
This pandemic may be stressful for people. Fear and anxiety about a new disease and what could happen can cause strong emotions in adults and children. Public health actions , such as social distancing, can make people feel isolated and lonely and can increase stress and anxiety.
- Fear and worry about your own health and the health of your young ones, your financial situation or job
- change in sleep or eating patterns
- difficulty in sleeping or concentrating
- worsening of chronic health problems
- contact a health professional before you start any self treatment for covid-19.
- take care of your emotional health.
- exercise regularly.
- take deep breaths, stretch or meditation.
- talk with people you trust about your concern.
TREATMENT
Your treatment depends on the type of mental illness you have , its severity and what works best for you.
If you have a mild mental illness with well controlled symptoms, treatments, your primary care provider. For severe mental illness a team approach is appropriate to make sure all medical and social needs.
MEDICATIONS
Although psychiatric medication don't cure mental illness, they can often improve symptoms. the best medications for you will depend on your particular situation and how your body responds to medications.

- Antidepressant
- Anti- anxiety medications
- Mood stabilizing medication
- Anti psychotic medication
- Set time aside with no distractions
- let them share as much as little as they want.
- Don't try to diagnose or second guess their feelings.
- Keep questions open ended.
- Talk about wellbeing.
- Listen carefully to what they tell you.
- Offer them help in seeking professional support and provide information on way to do this.
